PLAYDATE

Have you ever learned about an awesome edtech tool or concept , but never found the time to explore the it? Well, you are definitely not alone.

Jennie Magiera and six of her fellow educators developed a professional development concept called PLAYDATE The title is an acronym for People Learning & Asking "Y" with Digital Age Technology Exploration.

At its heart, PLAYDATE is about giving teachers and educators time to ‘play’ and explore together.  The concept was born from the originating group’s frustration with one too many professional development sessions that lacked time to explore a new concept. The concept has gained traction throughout the United States with a few dozen PLAYDATE events having taken place since 2013. In addition, Jennie Magiera was the keynote speaker for the 2017 MACUL conference.

Several REMC members collaborated last year to bring this powerful learning experience to Michigan. The first event took place on September 30, 2016 at Jackson ISD.  Feedback from this initial event was overwhelmingly positive.  The PLAYDATE team worked with Stockbridge Schools to transform their district professional development day around the concept and again came away feeling energized.

Now, through the support of the REMC Association of Michigan, the group is taking the idea to other locations around the state.
